Orvis ZG Helios™ 906-4 Mid 7.5 Fly Rod

2 1/2 oz. 9', 4-piece, Mid-Flex fly fishing rod for 6-wt. line.We set out on an adventure to make the world's lightest fly fishing rod. Along the way, we also made the world's best. While dry flies are the consummate way to catch trout, we often need to go deep with weight and bigger flies to catch trout. The new patent pending Helios 9-foot 6-weight gives you the strength and length to properly cast, mend and drift heavy nymphs and streamers, but because of the remarkable Helios technology eliminates the compromise in dry fly fishing. This rod will do both beautifully and is the perfect rod for big rivers and streams where a variety of techniques are necessary. If ever there was a perfect rod for fishing a dry with a dropper, the Helios 906 is it. Precise casts even at distance and the ability to reach out and control your line for perfect drifts. The remarkable light weight and responsiveness still gives you the tippet protection and the joy of feeling the fish in the fight. This is a big water trout rod taken to a level never before realized.

Hi there. I’m Matt from Orvis Technical. I noticed that a customer has not answered your question, but a mid flex rod is often preferred for fishing heavy streamers. The more open loop of a mid flex rod makes casting these heavy flies easier.

Question
What rod would you recommend for streamer fishing?
I'm looking to replace the 9 ft 6wt I use for streamer fishing on relatively large water: Madison, Big Horn, Muskeegon, Au Sable and Pere Marquetter rivers.

Would you recommend a tip or mid flex rod to minimize casting effort?
