Rod taper Penn´s Creek
As I own that wondeful rod, I have a question:

Is this a Gillum or Payne or which taper?

I am not a rod builder just a curious owner.

Hi, this is Matt from Orvis Technical, I noticed no one had answered your question but this is an Orvis designed taper as are all Orvis Bamboo rods. It is what is known as a swelled butt taper which is what forces the upper section of the rod to bend more than the butt section. Similar "swelled butt" rods have been made by rod makers including some older Leonard rods, but this specific taper is an Orvis design which was developed by Ron White and Howard Steere.
