Orvis Water Trapper® Doormats

These thirsty polypropylene mats are designed to take the worst that weather can dish out; side channels allow water to drain quickly, thick fibers scrape off mud and snow, and thin fibers remove moisture from the soles of boots and shoes. Questions & Answers for Orvis Water Trapper® Doormats

Question
Washability
Your catalogue states that the microfibre water trapper mats are machine washable. Are the non-microfibre mats machine washable too? Also, in Europe we have front-loading washing machines, which a re more economical on both energy and water than the top loaders, but which have a smaller capacity (5 to 7 kilos in a smaller space and with a smaller door). Am I likely to get a 2ft x 3ft mat into my washing machine?

Hi, I’m Jason P. from Orvis Customer Service. As no other customers have answered your question yet, I wanted to provide you with the information that you’re seeking…

The answer is that we recommend cleaning these mats by hosing them off and then line-drying them. You would not need to machine wash these mats.

Below is the link to this item in case you wanted to look at it again on our UK website.

Question
Is the surface too rough for bare feet?
My 3 young children and I are often barefoot in the house. We need a water and dirt grabbing rug for our kitchen sliding door area, where the dog is let in and out. Is this rug too rough for bare feet, and should we instead purchase the more expensive microfiber version?

Hi there. I’m Megan from Orvis Customer Service. I noticed that a customer has not answered your question, but the answer is
that the mat should be able to be hosed off. If the grass and hair is still staying on during hosing then scrubbing the mat with a stiff bristled brush should remove any debris.

Hi, this is Megan from Orvis Service, I noticed no one had answered your question but the unique border allows water to drain quickly from all sides. The mat could not work as well if it was cut to fit.

Someone said they are slightly smaller than exact 12" intervals. That could work well for me, but I can't tell exactly.

Hi there. I’m Megan from Orvis Customer Service. Since no one has answered your question yet, I did a little research for you, and here’s what I found out:
This item is not designed to be put outdoors unless covered by a porch, deck, etc. This is due to the fact that it would not serve its purpose of trapping liquid if it is subjected to the outside elements of rain or snow. It would soak this up and not be able to perform its intended purpose.
